The craft peaked in the Gothic building boom: Abbot Suger's renovation of the abbey church of Saint-Denis in the 1140s made colored light itself a theological argument, and the windows of Chartres Cathedral (rebuilt after the 1194 fire) and the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris (consecrated 1248) set the template — deep ruby and cobalt panes held in lead cames.
